Sharks drew 10-10 all with Cambridge A team while the Wasps lose 10-0. Both teams beat Cambridge B. Encouraging performance in the scrums and lineouts that are contested this season. The backs did move the ball more with some fine passing and support play.

The developing Quins team beat their Cambridge counterparts. For many boys this was their rugby debut.

21 October 2007 – Thurrock Festival

While the Wasp and Sharks took a well earned break from competitive matches with some light training at Hall lane, the Quins were competing in the Thurrock festival. 16 boys made up the squad many of whom had never took part in a festival before. Coaches Pete Copsey and John Wilson were thrilled with their level of commitment as they competed well in every match and even though they lost all the matches none were easy for the opposition. Throughout the long day the squad developed with improvement seen in each game. In the bowl final Thurrock proved too experienced taking a half time lead of 10-0. In the second half the Quins attacked relentlessly and got their just reward when Liam Nel made a break and was tackled 5m short but he managed to off load to Nathan Grey who scored to make it 10-5.

3 November - Etihad Airways Curtain Raiser Cup

This weekend the Upminster U10’s sent a Squad to take part in the Etihad Airways Curtain Raiser Cup played at the Harlequins Stoop.

The boys played 4 matches lasting 10mins each with no half time. As there were only 2 other teams in the pool,  Teddington and Dorking, we played both of these teams twice.

In the first match Upminster beat Dorking 15-0, the next match Upminster drew with Teddington 5-5, we then meet with Dorking again where we drew 5-5 meaning that we had to win the final game against Teddington to get through to the Semi finals. This was a tense match with Teddington taking an early lead however we quickly equalised and in the final moments of the game Alex Sharp scored the winning try which meant a final score of 10-5 to Upminster seeing us through to the Semi Finals in March.

The Squad on the day were Lewis Bennett, James O’Shea, James Buckmaster, Alex Sharp, James Diss, George Daly, George Brittle, Daniel Cosford, Matthew Johnson, Sean Wilson, Henry Baird, Connor Sullivan, Harry Johnson, Jack Wilkinson.

Try scorers on the day George Daly (4) Alex Sharp (2) Sean Wilson (1)

11th November – Sevenoaks and Bishop Stortford visit Hall Lane.

After squeezing 3 pitches in at the bottom of the field lots of rugby was played with the 9 teams, 3 from each club playing two 20min games each. The Sharks and the Wasps had a mixed day with both teams winning one and losing one.  The standard was high with lots of pressure to test the skill of the boys.

The highlight of the day was the Quins performance against their development counterparts. The Quins squad has swollen to 16 boys with the welcomed addition of 6 new lads. They managed to win 2 very close games with all the boys playing at least one half of each game. In the second game they began to pass out of contact repeatedly that enabled them to force play into the opposition half.

All in all it was a good day for all the children from all the clubs.

18th November –Colchester at home.

The Sharks and Wasps played Colchester A team with both matches finishing in a 5-5 draw. The Wasps team reverted to one dimensional game under pressure, with the boys not looking to get the ball wider and trying to run through the defence. The Sharks did try to move the ball, but the drop in temperature as the day went on either affected their concentration or numbed their hands as many balls were dropped allowing Colchester back into the match.

Quins also had 2 tough matches against Colchester B team, losing both games narrowly but again playing well making Colchester work really hard for there win.

25th November Blackheath Festival and Ilford Away

A good day at Eltham College with the children meeting Michael Lyngh and receiving the runners up trophy for the A and B tournament from Micky `The Munch' Skinner. The Wasps with the addition of Matthew Johnson and James Buckmaster won most of their matches and losing the final game to a good Richmond team.

Jordon and Liam made a festival debut for the Sharks. It was a tough start losing 15 – 0 to eventual winners Brighton. They went on to win all their games with the forwards improving their performance which allowed the backs to play some good flowing rugby, beating Richmond in the final game clinched the runners up spot. Lewis Bennett was selected as player of the tournament by the referees.

At Ilford the Quins played two matches against their Ilford counterparts. Both games were close with Ilford winning both.

2nd December Sittingbourne away.

On a foul day the Quins team came away smiling after one win and 2 draws against Sittingbourne , Vigo and Ashford.
