Summer Training 2008

Starts 10:30 Sunday 8th June 2008 at URFC, Hall Lane.
Newcomers welcome.

A few simple tips for pre-match/session eating

To keep ourselves fighting fit to enable us to keep going until the final whistle we need to feed our muscles with the right type of food.

What do I eat the day before training or a game?

Our body needs carbohydrates to keep us going. Carbohydrate stores itself within          the body which is slowly released to give you energy.

  • Pasta
  • Rice
  • Vegetables

To keep your diet balanced you need to add some protein.

·        Fish

·        Chicken

·        Lean Meat.

So Mum dig out the cook books and balance your superstars dinner to make him raring to go the next day.

What do I eat before a training session or a game?

We need to eat at least two hours before a training session or a game. Preferably something easy to digest.

·        Non sugary breakfast cereal

Weatabix

Cornflakes

Branflakes

Porridge

Try and stay away from Coco pops and other sugary products, sends blood sugar levels crazy, which in turn sends little boys crazy and then head coaches crazy!!!!!!!!!!

·        Try a little toast and jam/marmalade/marmite.

·        Fruit juice/ milk or good old water to drink.

All of the above are easy to digest, so when you’re running around you can concentrate on smashing into your opponent instead of worrying about digesting that lovely Sunday morning ‘FRY’ up.

What do I drink/eat during the session to keep my energy levels up?

MOST important is to keep yourself re-hydrated. You must drink plenty of water.

Again mixed sugary drinks send the blood sugar levels soaring which equal hyper-active kids. Also not brilliant for the teeth.

·        Mix fruit juice with water

·        Plain old water

·        Manufactured drinks like Lucazade sport and the like are good, but not required all of the time.

If your peckish during the game or session, again easily digestible food and not to much.

·        Jaffa cakes

·        Nut bars ( Beware allergies)

·        Quarter of a sandwich

TRY NOT TO FEED YOUR LITTLE DARLINGS CHIPS, CRISPS AND LARGE CHOCOLATE BARS DURING A SESSION. AS DELICIOUS AS THEY ARE THEY WILL NOT HELP TO GET THEM OVER THE TRY LINE.

What do I eat after the game/training session? If you have followed the above ANYTHING YOU WANT, and lots of it.
